Mahdi Gilbert brings magic to France

Mahdi Gilbert was invited to Châlons-en-Champagne, France by La Comète to headline their festival of magic. He performed his one man show as well as in their theater as well as many smaller close-up shows as part of the festival. While in town he was also asked to speak at local schools to inspire the students.

Voir Mahdi Gilbert sur scène est une expérience sans pareil. S’il est un magicien hors-pair, il est plus encore une personnalité hors du commun. Son spectacle est l’odyssée d’un enfant né sans mains. Forcé de réinventer une magie par lui-même, redéfinissant la façon même de tenir et de manipuler les cartes, ce gentlemen enpalme les cartes sans-même avoir de paume… Sous nos yeux ébahis, les cartes virevoltent, apparaissent, disparaissent, défiant notre entendement en même temps que les histoires qui les agrémentent donnent vie à la formidable énergie positive et créative d’un jeune homme habité par une passion et l’envie de la partager.

Sans fumée, sans miroir… sans mains, Mahdi génère l’envie de nous dépasser, sans fard mais avec des tours de passe-passe à couper le souffle. Il nous prouve que quand on y croit, tout est possible. La magie comme une leçon de vie et d’optimisme.

Seeing Mahdi Gilbert on stage is an experience like no other. While he is an outstanding magician, he is even more an extraordinary personality. His show is the odyssey of a child born without hands. With humor, virtuosity and delicacy, he retraces his journey, how the discovery of magic sublimated his life, making him one of the best manipulators that the card world has seen, invited to all stages of the world and inspiring even the greatest masters of his art, like a David Blaine.

From his handicap he gives rise to tricks that one would not even imagine being able to perform with our ten fingers. Forced to reinvent a magic on his own, redefining the very way of holding and handling cards, this gentleman palms the cards without even having a palm… Under our astonished eyes, the cards swirl, appear, disappear, defying our understanding At the same time as the stories which embellish them give life to the formidable positive and creative energy of a young man inhabited by a passion and the desire to share it.

Le close-up

La magie évolue et s’ouvre davantage au public en s’éloignant au fur et à mesure de la scène, tout en se rapprochant inexorablement de ses spectateurs, on appelle ça le close-up.

Le close-up (« gros plan » en anglais) est une spécialité de la prestidigitation qui consiste à se produire très près des spectateurs. Le magicien n’est plus séparé de son public. Sans effet, de lumière ou tout autre artifice, il pratique ses tours à quelques centimètres du public. Réduite à son plus simple appareil, cette forme de magie n’a besoin que de quelques accessoires (ficelles, cartes, objets appartenant au public, etc.).

The Close-up

The magic evolves and becomes more open to the public by moving away as the stage progresses, while moving inexorably closer to its spectators, we call it the close-up.

The close-up (“gros plan” in English) is a specialty of conjuring which consists in performing very close to the spectators. The magician is no longer separated from his audience. Without effect, light or any other artifice, he practices his tricks a few centimeters from the public. Reduced to its simplest device, this form of magic only needs a few accessories (string, cards, objects belonging to the public, etc.).
