Mahdi Gilbert’s First Sleight of Hand Video and How it Became Viral
Mahdi Gilbert first became well known in the underground Toronto magic scene for his sleight of hand. No one knew about him or his magic since he was not performing professionally back then and had no social media footprint. A few magicians asked Mahdi if he could film some of his sleight of hand to share with the magic community. Mahdi obliged and filmed a few of these techniques on video.
The first video Mahdi Gilbert posted to his Youtube channel reached 700 views in it’s first night. Back then Mahdi believed 700 people were an awful lot of people, little did he know that in a few years his magic would be seen by over 700 million people worldwide. The first video Mahdi Gilbert filmed was of a technique called the Overhand Blind Shuffle. This is a technique to shuffle the cards but secretly control the position of the cards in the deck. Shortly after it would be shared around the world and tens of thousands, if not hundreds of people would see Mahdi Gilbert’s video before he deleted it from Youtube.
